right on target: finally

i've made no bones about my continued disappointment with target's 'go international' designer collaborations: but with december's forthcoming rodarte line, i think we may have something here. the stunning sequined ribcage shift, perfect-fit sailor stripe tee, and romantic nude tulle dress certainly bode well for it's reception.

the next atacoma

from finnish-born designer julia lundsten, for her label, finsk (two-time winner of the manolo blahnik award) comes this ponyskin and wood stunner. i am mesmerized.

music

doing my usual fashion blog perusal, i came across an impeccably styled, completely rad lookbook for the new 'music collection' that blogger extraordinaire (and linea U creative director) gala gonzalez created for spanish brand alolfo dominguez. while it would be a bit unseemly for me to show up to work in lace-edged thigh-high tights, i'm not saying that this spread doesn't make me want to try. enjoy.

so loubi-like it hurts

as shoe prices continue to escalate well into the $1000 range, those 'in the know,' and woefully low on funds, know that gojane is always stocked with a selection of fresh, new designer knock-offs. i frequently check the sight, but hadn't, until today, actually made a purchase. wanting only for a red lacquered sole, at $31.50, i couldn't possibly be expected to refuse these louboutin look alikes...so, i didn't.

ldnfw:london calling

sometimes studying the fashion week offerings can become a bit tedious: flipping through slide after slide of same old, same old; it can feel a bit more like work than pleasure. but to my utter delight, today's recap was a complete joy, and an effervescent reminder of why i do what i do.

nyfw:elvis has left the building

thus far, it's been difficult to discern any real color palette trends. designers seem to be all over the board: pastels, rich/bold colors/ neutrals/metallics...whatever, it's good to have variety. one thing that has been markedly missing from the ny scene this time around is the 'rocker chick' look that's been so consistently stomping the runways for the past few seasons. thus far the look seems altogether less rebel, rebel, more prim and proper. there's been a ladylike vibe across the board and with the substantial presence of menswear elements in the collections, it seems designers are telling us all to 'just grow up.'
some of my personal favorites:

cynthia steffe

alexander wang

rebecca taylor

cynthia rowley

marc jacobs

emerging/continuing trends:
shorts
metallics
ruffles
short or skirt/jacket sets
tailoring, draping, and the combination of the two in one look
the slouch pant
graphic/mixed prints
tie/obi belts
body con
collared shirts
jumpsuits

saks alive

after a painfully unrealistic virtual shopping spree through saks' boot department, i had an $8,000 plus virtual bill and a renewed sense of economic injustice. oh, too be stupidly wealthy...

i call it euro neo grunge

whether the product of a late showing of sid and nancy the night before, or the urge to make use of the shrunken flannel that has been in solitary confinement at the back of my closet, i can't be certain what inspired the look. this much i do know: it was not the lumbering trade, or any of the burly men therein employed, comments to which effect anyone combining plaid and denim must gracefully endure.

jacket, old navy; shirt, f21; jeans, bdg from uo; boots, doc marten

pardon me, but...is that the tribute you're wearing?

like a woman obsessed, i've always got one eye out for an exceptionally well crafted, but marginally as expensive version of the ysl trib too boot. when aldo's take on the luxury shoe failed to impress i admit i began to get a bit disheartened. but, lo, bebe makes itself heard, and they've got my full attention.

dreaming in velvet

lately i just can't seem to shake the, nearly inexplicable, desire for a pair of velvet monogrammed slippers: with a cropped skinny jean and a crisp button down, the look is flawless. however, some cursory internet research has proven it to be a fairly costly obsession. shipton & heneage will fashion a bespoke pair for a paltry $450.00, but oh, the possibilities. with a selection of rich, sultry colors, monogram styles, embroidery tones, and lining shades it gets a girl excited just thinking about it.

now boarding: the reality train. for those of us for which 'price is no object' doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, daniel green makes a really lovely pair for a mere $41.95 (below).

and, although this means foregoing the monogram (boo), it also means preventing your car loan from going into arrears this month (yay). $450.00 for slippers? hmph.

alexa

cheers to marie claire, whose totally loveable september issue featured, not only, an olsen-ified cover and lovely layout to match, but perennial fashion fave of mine, alexa chung. i adore her mix of masculine and feminine pieces and im pretty much going to need that chainmail inspired alexander wang top, without question.

city girl

do my eyes deceive me, or is that ally from 'the city' vogueing it out for forever 21? watching the first season of the show, i remember thinking, 'is this girl really a model, or just one of those wannabees that flaunts the title, because they were in a local mall fashion show for sears when they were like thirteen?' though f21 hardly carries as much cache' as, say, a chanel campaign, this isn't the first time i've seen her crop up lately, so i suppose she's legit. do your thing, ally.

the layering game

san francisco weather is mercurial, if anything, and such unpredictability requires a mille feuille take on dressing: removeable tights/leggings and a cozy top layer now factor in to everything i wear.
i was a little bummed that the shoes didn't show up well in any of the photos so i showcased them in their own frame.
